Very hip American music site Pitchfork has given a so-so reception to Iggy Pop’s Orcon-organised Kiwi rendition on ‘The Passenger.’

The performance, an advertising stunt to show off ISP Orcon’s high-speed broadband service in NZ, was described by the website as a “clusterf***” recorded by an “ungainly mob”.

The piece goes on to say “The video… might not be too great an advertisement for Orcon; it looks like a lot of these musicians have some pretty slow, choppy connections.”

Obviously, Pitchfork doesn’t realise just how slow the average Kiwi “broadband” connection is, and that the “choppy connections” on display are a good deal better than those provided by some other so-called high-speed connections.

In any case, we reckon the flute-playing is great.
