News: RIANZ welcomes government’s commitment to tackling online piracy

The New Zealand government announced that it will amend new section 92a of the Copyright Act to engage ISPs in tackling online piracy. This follows the failure to achieve a private-sector agreement between rights holders and ISPs on a Code of Practice that would set out the process for implementing section 92a.
The Recording Industry Association of New Zealand (RIANZ) backs the government’s firm commitment to improve new legislation requiring action by Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to help protect creators’ rights. The industry will work with government and other parties to amend the new law to ensure an effective and reasonable approach.
