What is a NETBOOK and why are they so hot right now?
- It’s really a downsized laptop or notebook .
- The big difference is the availability of flash drive versions.
- That means the information stored on the netbook is far less likely to be lost if you drop the computer from a great height.
- Another difference is the small onboard memory.
- And yet another difference is the minimal number of applications.
- This is cool because it cuts out unnecessary clutter, and means if you want a portable computer capable of the essentials, you’ve hit the jack pot.
- That is, if your idea of the essentials are emailing, surfing the net, and other tasks that don’t require vast memory.

Dear Tone Reader,
It’s not all bad news!
We listened to people banging on about how expensive gadgets and TVs and whatnot are in NZ, and how hard it was to get the cool stuff available overseas. And then we went out to find out the truth! You’ll be surprised at just how lucky we are in NZ, and it’s all in the new Tone. Also: Find out how to get the very best out of your new TV panel, lust after the gear in our home theatre review section, and win an Onkyo receiver!
