Game reviews: Tami Neilson – The Kitchen Table Sessions

As a former Stars In Their Eyes competitor (she was Amy Winehouse), you’d think Tami Neilson would work particularly hard to avoid seeming like a novelty act.

Bluegrass-style covers of ‘Slice Of Heaven’ and Scribe’s ‘Not Many’ (an unlisted track) suggest not. That’s a shame, because when The Kitchen Table Sessions is good, as on a number of slow-burning originals and a devastating duet of ‘All I Have To Do Is Dream’ (yes, really) that recalls both Cowboy Junkies and Gram/Emmylou, it’s very good indeed.
