Game reviews: God of War: Chains of Olympus – 70

Anyone who has played the previous God of War titles on the PlayStation 2 will surely know just how good they were, and that they are generally regarded as two of the best titles to ever grace the now obsolete console. Instead of jumping straight to the PS3, developer Ready At Dawn Studios has released a prequel, Chains of Olympus, on the PlayStation Portable. And good Lord (or should I say great Zeus?), is it impressive!
How Ready At Dawn has managed to get a PSP game looking as good as this one does is a mystery, but no one in the Tone office is complaining. Super-smooth, highly detailed graphics go hand in hand with slightly simplified yet still thoroughly excellent controls to make for one hell of a handheld gaming experience. As always, the gameplay revolves around epic hand-to-hand combat. It is as excellent as ever, sporting all the usual brutal sword attacks and special magic moves, as well as a few new surprises.
Sound is equally impressive when put through a good set of headphones, and the storyline really adds another dimension to the Kratos main character as he begins his death-dealing rampage in the name of his gods.
Put simply, Chains of Olympus may very well be the best PSP game ever released
