DVD reviews: Cadillac Records Blu-Ray
By Lynn Ansell
Format Blu-ray From Sony Pictures Rated M
It’s amazing that this story hasn’t been told until now, really. Cadillac Records backgrounds the growth and success of Chicago blues record label Chess, the home of legendary artists from Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, to Chuck Berry and Etta James. Even though it’s a low-budget affair, this biopic (bankrolled by Beyonce) is more entertaining than most, because it doesn’t just focus on one artist, and it captures a fascinating time in music history. In fact, it’s hard to imagine blues, R’n'B or rock’n'roll history without Chess. Definitely not a ‘made for Blu-ray movie’, its DolbyTrue HD surround doesn’t sparkle as much as one would hope, but it’s still worth a watch.
