Stereonerd: Fair Go?
Who saw Fair Go’s “expose” on high-end HDMI cables? What do the assembled informed masses (ie, Tone fans) out there think of it all?
What bugged me most about the report was that Fair Go failed to even differentiate between analogue and digital, or different types of cable. They didn’t even say that they were specifically talking about HDMI.
There may be debate about the benefits of high-end HDMI over low-end HDMI in terms of signal, but in hi-fi land, there really is no debate. (Well there is, but there’s plenty of evidence that speaker cables and interconnects sound very different from each other).
Maybe it’s true that there’s no visible difference between a cheapy HDMI and an expensive one, but surely you’d need more than a bunch of average joe’s sitting around the TVNZ cafetaria to be able to make that decision… not exactly exacting testing conditions, eh what?
