Brett Gideon: LINN DS digital streaming technology becomes more affordable
LINN seem to be leading the charge towards networked high resolution digital audio with its DS range of music servers – the Klimax DS was reviewed in TONE by Gary Pearce and he found it to be an exceptional product but let’s be honest – at the lofty $29,995 price point, it’s definitely in the high end category.
LINN recently released the Akurate DS at $10,995, which is still up in rarefied territory for many people but the big news from LINN NZ this week is the release of the Sneaky Music DS (another great LINN product name) and at $3,600, it’s suddenly in a price bracket that could work for a wider audience.
But wait, there’s more. The Sneaky Music DS isn’t just a digital source with support for audio resolution way beyond what CD is capable of, it happens to have pre and power amp sections built in, making it massively good value at first glance.
We’ll get one in for a TONE test ASAP and should have a full review in issue 71.
